Postdoctoral Fellow, Rice Academy of Fellows

Rice University’s Boniuk Institute for the Study and Advancement of Religious Tolerance is pleased to invite applications for sponsorship to the Rice Academy Postdoctoral Fellows Program. The two-year Rice Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to exceptional scholars who have recently earned a doctoral degree in any area and who want to pursue research with faculty at Rice University. Rice Academy Fellows application requires sponsorship by a Rice University faculty member in a dual sponsorship structure. This call is for consideration for sponsorship by the Boniuk Institute in the Institute’s area of interest and in specific disciplines for the Rice Academy of Fellows.  If selected as a Fellow, Boniuk institute will fund 50% of the Fellow’s salary (the other 50% to be funded by the Rice Academy).

The application will be a two-step process. Application materials to Boniuk Institute are due December 15, 2023; if selected for sponsorship, full application for Rice Academy of Fellows (which will include a letter of support from the Boniuk Institute) is due Jan 3, 2024.

Sponsorship call:
The Boniuk Institute for the Study and Advancement of Religious Tolerance at Rice University is pleased to sponsor a Rice Academy of Fellows application for junior scholars whose work advances or studies the conditions that lead to religious tolerance and pluralism and the conditions that lead to religious discrimination and violence, in the disciplines of sociology, anthropology, political science or economics.

The appointment is for a two-year term and carries a salary of $60,000/year. The fellow will be part of the prestigious Rice Academy of Fellows and will be housed in the Boniuk Institute or department of a Boniuk-affiliated faculty (in one of the disciplines mentioned above). The fellow will spend 50% of their time devoted to independent research, and 50% to collaborating on Boniuk Institute’s research projects (if housed at Boniuk) or pursuing research in home department (if housed in department of a Boniuk-affiliated faculty).

Applicants are asked to submit the following: research proposal (3 pages maximum) on proposed research on an independent project in the area of religious tolerance, pluralism, discrimination and violence in the disciplines of sociology, anthropology, economics or political science and a curriculum vitae.

This position is in residence at Rice University.

Minimum Requirements:
PhD in Sociology, Political Science, Economics, or Anthropology with substantive expertise in the study of race and religion, religion and immigration, religion and urban contexts, religion in cross-national research, or another area related to religious pluralism and diversity

Salary Information:
$60,000 + benefits
